Iain and Shirley's Wedding
and Farewell to Whalley Range 'I composed the first
of these tunes for the marriage, on the 30th June 2001,
of Iain and Shirley Cathcart of Kilwinning, both fine
accordionists. Farewell to Whalley Range is a slip jig
written by the renowned Mancunian flautist Michael McGoldrick.'
-
Magdalene Fjord and
The Ook Pick Waltz 'The Beautiful Magdelene Fjord
is situated near the north-western corner of Spitzbergen
in the high Artic. Its spectacular jagged peaks are
typical of those that inspired Dutch explorers to name
the island Spitzbergen, which literally means 'pointed
mountains'. I visited this region whilst performing
aboard the Black Prince cruise liner. The Ook Pick Waltz
in a American tune I first heard on a Boys of the Lough
album.
-
Tom McKerron's Reel and
Humors of Westport 'The outstanding Scots fiddler
Charlie McKerron, who is a member of Capercaillie, wrote
Tom McKerron's Reel for his uncle. Humors of Westport
is a well known session tune from Ireland.

Eamon Gilmartin's
Session and the Silver Spire 'The first tune has
an Irish connection. Eamonn Gilmartin is a friend of
mine from Portroe, Co. Tipperary and the tune was written
after some great sessions in the Barge Inn, Garrykennedy.
'The Silver Spire' is a well known traditional Irish
reel.'
-
Back Up and
Push and the Crazy Creek Reel 'A couple of exciting
reels which I picked up on a tour of Canada.'
-
Dargai
'Dargai is a pibroch style air commemorating the famous
heights in India which were taken by the Gordon Highlanders
in 1897.
